Technical Textile

What is technical textile in digital print?

Technical textiles in digital print refer to engineered textile substrates that are designed to meet specific functional requirements and are compatible with digital printing technologies. These materials go beyond aesthetics—they are used for functional, performance-driven applications in industries such as architecture, interior decor, advertising and other visual communication applications.

Technical textiles are textile materials manufactured primarily for functionality rather than fashion. They are made from natural or synthetic fibers and may be coated, laminated, or treated to achieve desired properties like:

  • Flame resistance

  • UV protection

  • Anti-microbial treatment

  • Water repellency

  • Dimensional stability

  • High tensile strength

  • Breathability or airtightness

Digital printing on technical textiles allows for precise, high-resolution graphics on specialized materials. It enables short-run production, personalization, and complex color gradients that traditional screen printing might struggle with.

Key digital printing technologies used:

  • UV-curable inkjet – for rigid and flexible coated textiles

  • Latex inkjet – for flexible substrates requiring environmental resistance

  • Solvent/eco-solvent – for outdoor applications

  • Dye sublimation – often used on polyester-based fabrics (requires pre-treatment and heat)
